About Us The Chicano College Bowl (CCB) is an annual event that is sponsored by the Highland Park High School-Hispanos Unidos Club. It’s a knowledge bowl tournament based on the PBS video series Latino Americans. This is an interactive and fun way for students to learn about U.S. history with a Latino focus, and it enriches a positive cultural identity. It also provides an opportunity for many students to meet with each other and share their own Latino experiences in their communities and schools.
Since 2006, we have invited individuals who have been active in the Chicano Rights Movement. Our past keynote speakers have interacted with our students on an intimate basis- allowing them to learn and ask questions that have truly inspired them. We have expanded to include artists, historians, and activists who engage students in the ties between our times and our country's history Recently in 2010, we added a symposium experience for CCB participants in order to build connections and foster in-depth discussions on Chicano Civil Rights Movement's contemporary impact. And in 2013, we added the CCB Pachanga experience. Participating CCB high schools volunteer to host CCB Pachangas during the school year. During these gatherings, students create programming that provides students opportunities to reconnect and to explore themes/topics related to our Latino community. |
