How did the idea of "pachangas" begin?
Pachanga Goals:
· provide a safe space for students to openly discuss topics that are relevant to Latino issues.
· develop facilitation skills among all members.
In preparation for the CCB, HPHS Hispanos Unidos members voted unanimously to add another component to our club activities. We now have an additional monthly meeting in the evenings called “Pachangas,” (happy, festive, get-togethers which usually involve food, music, and great conversations). CCB Pachangas started as means of gathering Hispanos Unidos members after school to discuss and think about Latino issues and our role as active participants in our communities. In the process, members practice the skills needed to facilitate whole group/small group work during the CCB Symposium program in the spring.
Each component of our meetings and the pachangas are for preparing our students to be leaders. Each activity is designed to sharpen the facilitation skills of our members. In May our students will lead small group discussions based on similar topics with other students from other high schools during our CCB Symposium.

CCB Pachangas
In 2013 during the Chicano College Bowl Symposium, participating school sponsors discussed the idea of holding CCB Pachangas on their school campuses. We left with the goal of holding at least one in the fall of the next school year. Warren High School's AVANZA, Future Latino Leaders agreed to sponsor the first CCB Pachanga.
We hope that CCB Pachangas become part of our group's growing efforts to build the connections and the relationships among our network of CCB High Schools, and that they will create positive community leaders and student involvement in their communities.
